Ferrara Private Tour

  • 2 heures

On this private tour of Ferrara, you'll visit its medieval alleys and Renaissance boulevards with a guide exclusively for you.

Tour Description

At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the Castello Estense to begin a 2.5-hour private tour of Ferrara. The Estense Lordship ruled Ferrara for over 300 years, and it has been a World Heritage Site since 1995. It is also known as the Italian capital of cycling.

The tour starts in the courtyard of Castello Estense, a symbol of the city that was built as a fortress and later transformed into a ducal residence for the Estense family. You will see its terraces, balconies, and imposing towers.

We'll then visit Piazza Savonarola and Piazza Cattedrale, the latter featuring the grandiose façade of the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral and the Ducal Palace, which houses the Town Hall. Nearby is the Loggia dei Merciai, which was a center of commerce in the Middle Ages.

Next, we will stroll through the medieval streets and visit the oldest part of the city, including Via delle Volte. Here, we will discuss the significance of the Po River and its ancient ports. We will also explore the narrow streets of the Jewish ghetto, home to a prosperous Jewish community.

Finally, before arriving at Corso Ercole I d'Este, we will pass by the Antica Enoteca Al Brindisi, the oldest tavern in the world. The tour concludes at the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a late 15th-century building, marking the end of this historical journey.
