Astorga Tour with Visit to the Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace

  • 5 heures

At the indicated time we leave León in the direction of Astorga, cradle of the Maragatería.

Once we reach the historic center of Astorga we will immerse ourselves in its imperial past. In the 1st century BC, the legionaries of the Legio X Gémina division needed a safe place to station themselves during the Cantabrian wars. Thus was born the Asturica Augusta camp, the origin of the city.

Our first stop will take place at the imposing Astorga Cathedral. Free visit to the temple following the explanations of an audio guide in Spanish, included in the excursion. Astorga Cathedral is one of the main monuments of the Leonese way of the Jacobean Route. Inside the temple you will find artistic jewels such as the choir stalls or the main altarpiece, a Renaissance-style masterpiece.

Next to the cathedral is the Episcopal Palace of Astorga. Wait, haven't we got the wrong bus and have we traveled to Barcelona? The shapes of the palace remind us so much of Catalan modernism… Don't worry, there has been no confusion.

We are in the province of León, the only thing that happens is that the Astorgano Palace is designed by Antonio Gaudí himself. After your tour of the modernist building, we will return to León.
