The vision of Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphant, the Ancient City features scale models of some of Thailand's outstanding architectural gems from its earliest times through to the current era. Here and there a genuine period building has been reassembled amongst the reproductions.

Everything has been assembled on a layout that resembles the outline of the map of current day Thailand, with the exhibits placed in the location as they would appear on the map. At a ratio of 1:3, the models are quite grand, and some are complete reproductions ofbuildings that either no longer exist or lie in a ruined state.

Examples cover all periods of history and their distinct styles, and all the regions. Here and there small examples of traditional domestic architecture are found such as a scaled down market town - where the arts and crafts and regional foods can be seen being prepared and for purchase. For the visitor short on time, Ancient City provides an introduction to Thailand within an afternoon.
