Al Hoota Cave Guied Tour
- 1 hora
On this guided tour of Al Hoota Cave, we'll explore this natural formation that has developed over millions of years, offering insights into the region's history in north-eastern Oman.
Tour Description
At the designated time, we will meet at the entrance of Al Hoota Cave to commence our guided exploration of this prominent site in Al Hamra.
This natural site, located at the base of Jebel Shams, the highest mountain in Oman, is over 2 million years old, shaped by the dissolution of limestone by acidic water. This process continues to alter the underground landscape.
The Al Hoota Cave extends for 4.5 kilometres (2.7 miles), with only 500 metres (1,640 feet) accessible to the public. The tour will take you through the underground areas featuring stalactites, stalagmites, and columns formed over millennia.
Participants will also encounter one of the four lakes in the cave, measuring 800 metres (2,624 feet) long and 15 metres (49 feet) deep. Informative discussions about its unique fish species will be included. Other wildlife such as bats, arthropods, molluscs, spiders, and water beetles may also be seen.
After approximately one hour, we will conclude the tour and exit the cave.
