Aliano Private Tour
At your chosen time, we'll meet on Via Martiri d'Ungheria to begin our private tour of Aliano. This village, situated at an altitude of 1640 feet (500 metres), overlooks the Agri Valley and is notable for its natural environment and history.
During the tour, we'll stroll through the old town of Aliano and view the Church of San Luigi Gonzaga along with traditional houses. We will visit various lookout points offering views of the area’s ravines.
Additionally, we'll tour the Museum of Rural Civilization to understand daily life in this village within the province of Matera. The museum features ancient farming tools, items from oil production and milking, a rural dwelling, and other exhibits.
As we explore Aliano, we will stop at the façade of Carlo Levi's house, where he lived during the Fascist regime. We'll discuss his captivity in this town and notable works, including Christ Stopped at Eboli. The tour concludes at Carlo Levi's tomb, where his remains are interred.
We will then conclude our tour at the starting point or a central location of your choice.
