- 3 - 4 horas
On this guided tour of Berat, we'll discover the castle and the oldest quarters of the city while learning about its history and cultural mix.
Tour Details
We will meet at Saint Demetrius Orthodox Cathedral and, after gathering, start the guided tour of Berat, known as the 'city of a thousand windows'. The name refers to the cluster of white-fronted houses on the hill.
After an introduction, we will drive to Berat Castle, located 200 metres (656 ft) above sea level. Once an ancient city, it is now a walled quarter and is one of the largest inhabited fortresses in the Balkans, with over 500 residents in its 120 medieval houses. We will explore the streets and visit key sites including St. Mary of Blachernae Church, St. Nicholas Church, the Acropolis, and the White and Red Mosques, stopping for scenic views at the viewpoint.
Next, we will visit the Gorica district and the Mangalem district. In Gorica, we will cross the Gorica Bridge, important for the city's development.
We will cross the suspension bridge to Mangalem, known for its steep cobbled streets and vertical houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Here, we will explore the medieval quarter, which includes Helveti Tekke and King Mosque, highlighting the city's Muslim heritage.
The tour concludes after 3 to 3.5 hours of activity back at the starting point on Republika Boulevard.
