Private Tour of Caltagirone
- 2 horas
On this private tour of Caltagirone, we'll explore the city known for its ceramic creations and its Baroque and Art Nouveau monuments.
Description
We'll meet at the entrance of Caltagirone's Public Garden at the scheduled time. This garden is recognized for its Art Nouveau elements, including an Arab-style stage and the Belvedere Theater.
Our journey will proceed past the Museo della Ceramica, moving along Caltagirone's main street to its historic center, where the Tondo Vecchio stands, an 18th-century monument used for open-air performances.
The tour continues along the San Francesco Bridge, notable for its five arches and local ceramic vases. This footbridge was built in the 17th century connecting two of the hills on which the town is situated.
As we wind through the streets, we will admire the Baroque and Art Nouveau churches and palaces, ending at the Cathedral of San Giuliano. This temple features a 48-meter bell tower and a majolica dome, with frescoes depicting Old Testament scenes and Baroque wooden embellishments.
Nearby is the Piazza del Municipio, surrounded by the neoclassical Palazzo dell'Aquila and the former Palazzo Senatorio, now housing the Luigi Sturzo Gallery.
Our final destination is the Santa Maria del Monte staircase, linking the historic center to the modern section. Constructed in the 17th century, this staircase is decorated with colorful ceramic tiles across its 142 steps and is a focal point during celebrations like the Infiorata and the Patron Saint festival.
The tour concludes after 2 hours at this iconic site.
