Paestum Archeological Park Private Tour
At the selected time, we'll meet at the Archaeological Park of Paestum to begin a tour of this important site in southern Italy. This land was known as Magna Grecia in the Classical Age.
Our guided tour of Paestum will begin with a review of its Greek origins and its eventual conquest by the Romans. We will explain how natural phenomena such as the overflowing of the Salso River contributed to the abandonment of this city.
First, we'll visit the temple of Hera, the oldest on the site, dating back to the 6th century BC. Nearby is the temple of Poseidon, the largest temple of Paestum that names the archaeological park. After admiring its Doric colonnades, we'll visit the sanctuary of Athena, noted for the Christian tombs found on its grounds, later serving as a church.
The guided tour will then take us along the Via Sacra towards the forum and the Roman amphitheater of Paestum. We will access the National Archaeological Museum to see original pieces found on the site, including the Tomb of the Swimmer.
After a two-hour tour, we'll conclude the guided tour. If you wish, you can continue exploring it at your leisure.
