Guided tour of Syracuse, place of Greek memory par excellence. The excursion starts with the visit of the Neapolis Archaeological Park, a natural area full of archaeological finds belonging to several periods of Syracusan history. For the quantity and importance of its monuments it is considered one of the most important archaeological areas of Sicily, as well as among the largest in the Mediterranean.
Inside the park you can admire: the ancient Greek Theater, a theater built in its first phase in the 5th century B.C. on the slopes on the south side of the Temenite hill and rebuilt in the 3rd century B.C. and still re-transformed in Roman times; the Latomie, majestic stone quarries surrounded by greenery, with the famous and suggestive Dionysus Ear, a deep artificial cave produced by the excavation of the quarry workers; And finally: the Altar of Ieron II, a commemorative monument dedicated to Zeus Eleutheriosadmire and the Roman Amphitheater from the 3rd-4th century A.D., the most imortant public work of the time. Continue for Ortigia, the old town. A long walk you will reach to the the Temple of Apollo (The oldest Doric temple in Sicily. Dating from the early 6th century B.C. underwent several transformations starting from the Byzantine period),Piazza Duomo and the Cathedral of Santa Maria delle Colonne, built around an ancient Greek temple of Athena.
The last stop will the legendary Fonte Aretusa: a freshwater spring located near the sea. It has a double circular shape, with a circular structure inside, or a double concentric circle. In the Aretusa source is set the legend of Aretusa and Alfeo one of the most fascinating myths of Syracuse. Ortigia has been a heritage of humanity since 2005.
