Day Trip to Ksar Ghilane & Matmata

On this day trip to Ksar Ghilane and Matmata, we will explore an oasis, enjoy hot springs, and discover troglodyte houses.

Day Trip Details

We will pick you up from your hotel in Djerba and travel to Ksar Ghilane, approximately 3 hours away. During the drive, we will cross the ancient El Kantara, a Roman bridge spanning 7 kilometres (4.3 miles) that connects Djerba to the mainland.

We will stop at Medenine for a break at a local café to discuss the day's itinerary and you can grab a coffee.

Continuing through villages like Beni Kheddach, we will arrive at Ksar Ghilane, where we will spend 2 to 3 hours learning about the nomadic lifestyle and enjoying the landscapes. You can take a dip in the hot water springs, go on a camel ride, or an ATV tour.

We will have lunch in front of the dunes, featuring local dishes like soup, salad, pastries, and couscous. After lunch, we will proceed to Matmata to visit a troglodyte house, where you will enjoy rosemary tea and homemade bread with olive oil and honey.

On our return to Djerba, we will follow the Berber Trail, passing locations that were filming spots for Star Wars. We will make several 30-minute stops in Tamazret, Toujane, and Ksar Metameur for photo opportunities.

Finally, we will return to Djerba and drop you off at your hotel after a total of 8 hours.
