Join us on this tour of Écija's churches and discover its rich ecclesiastical heritage. These beautiful churches will make you fall in love with this Sevillian town.
Tour Details
Écija once had 14 churches and 18 convents. At the designated time, we'll meet at the Plaza de Santiago to begin this tour exploring the religious beauty of this town in the province of Sevilla.
First, we'll admire the Church of Santiago, which preserves the Gothic-Mudéjar style. After viewing its facade, we'll explore its altarpiece, one of the most significant in the Archdiocese of Seville after the Seville Cathedral.
Next, we’ll head to Plaza de España, where remains of a primitive episcopal building were found, and view the exterior of the Church of Santa Barbara, built over a Roman temple.
We will then visit the Church of Santa Maria, known for its bell tower, reminiscent of the Giralda in Seville. We will discuss its history and examine archaeological pieces in its courtyard.
Following this, we will proceed to the Church of Los Descalzos, a Baroque gem within Astigitan and Andalusian styles, known for its stunning interior despite an understated exterior.
To complete the tour, we will pass by the Convent of Las Marroquíes and the Santa Cruz Parish Church, before viewing the Church of San Pablo and Church of Santo Domingo, concluding the tour.
After 2.5 hours, we will conclude our guided tour of Écija's churches.
