On this private tour of Ferrara, you'll visit its medieval alleys and Renaissance boulevards with a guide exclusively for you.
Tour Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Castello Estense to start a 2.5-hour private tour of Ferrara. Ferrara was ruled by the Estense Lordship for over 300 years and has been a World Heritage Site since 1995. It is also known as the Italian capital of cycling.
The tour begins in the courtyard of Castello Estense, a symbol of the city that was constructed as a fortress and later became a ducal residence for the Estense family. You'll see its terraces, balconies, and towers.
Next, we'll visit Piazza Savonarola and Piazza Cattedrale, featuring the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral and the Ducal Palace, which now houses the Town Hall. Nearby, you'll find the Loggia dei Merciai, a historical business center.
Continuing, we will explore the medieval streets and enter the city’s oldest area, the Via delle Volte, learning about the Po River and its historical ports. We'll also walk through the Jewish ghetto, home to a significant Jewish community.
Finally, we will pass by the Antica Enoteca Al Brindisi, the oldest tavern in the world, ending at the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a late 15th-century landmark.
