Description
We will meet at the Generator Copenhagen Hostel to start this free tour of Copenhagen. The itinerary includes visiting the Little Mermaid and exploring the Port of Copenhagen, a key site for economic and cultural exchange over centuries. Historical monuments will be observed and their backgrounds discussed.
On the way to the coastal area, we'll pass through the King's Gardens and view the exterior of Rosenborg Castle before reaching Nyboder, known for its orange buildings from the 17th century that housed the Danish Navy. The tour will also cover the relation between the merchant port's expansion and navy personnel growth.
Next, we will arrive at Kastellet, one of the oldest forts in Northern Europe. After exploring this citadel, we will reach the s sculpture of the Little Mermaid, an icon inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale. The location provides a scenic view of the Port of Copenhagen, the largest in Denmark and a significant Baltic Sea harbor, along with interesting facts about it.
As we walk along the harbor, we'll see notable sites such as the Copenhagen Opera House, the Nyholm Central Guardhouse, and Ofelia Plads. The tour concludes after 2.5 hours at the Nyhavn Canal in the heart of Copenhagen.
