Melfi, Venosa y Lagopesole Private Tour
On this private tour, participants will discover significant archaeological sites in the Basilicata and Vulture regions, specifically in Melfi, Venosa, and Lagopesole.
The tour begins at the Castle of Melfi, where participants will follow the guide in their own vehicle to explore key areas of Mount Vulture, starting in Venosa. The first highlight is the archaeological museum, which exhibits remains from the ancient Roman colony of Venusia, founded in 291 B.C. Participants will walk through the remnants of this historical city, viewing baths and a domus decorated with mosaics.
During the Venosa visit, the abbey of the Holy Trinity will serve as a backdrop, revealing its historical significance before proceeding to Melfi.
In Melfi, the tour will include visits to the Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral, noted for its white stone façade, and the Castle of Frederick II, home to the National Archaeological Museum of Melfese, which contains artifacts from the Archaic, Classical, and Roman periods.
A break will be provided for refreshments. The final stop is Lagopesole, linked to Frederick II and his son Manfredi, where historical events and the local castle will be discussed.
The tour concludes back in Melfi approximately eight to nine hours after starting.
