Herrenchiemsee Palace Day Trip

Set on an island in the middle of Lake Chiemsee, Herrenchiemsee Palace is a key landmark in southern Bavaria. Join us for this day trip from Munich to explore its history.

Day Trip Details

We will meet at 4 Dachauer Straße then walk to Munich Central Station. From there, we'll take a train for a one-hour ride to Chiemsee.

Upon arrival, we’ll board a boat to Herreninsel, the larger of the two main islands. You can visit Herrenchiemsee Palace, inspired by Versailles and commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. If you opt to enter, we’ll explore the rooms and gardens while discussing Ludwig II, referred to as the "Mad King." Alternatively, you can enjoy the palace grounds at your own pace.

Afterwards, we’ll take another boat to Fraueninsel, home to a historic Benedictine convent. You will have free time to explore the island’s quaint village.

Later, we’ll regroup to take the boat back to Chiemsee, then catch the train back to Munich. The trip lasts approximately nine and a half hours.
