Padula Charterhouse Private Guided Visit
On our Padula Charterhouse Private Guided Visit, we will explore an important monument in southern Italy. We'll visit the cloister, the baroque church, and various rooms within this monastic complex.
At your selected time, we will meet you at the entrance of the Padula Charterhouse to commence the guided tour of this World Heritage Site. Known as the Monastery of San Lorenzo, this 14th-century monument is the second-largest Carthusian complex in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. The visit includes the cloisters, kitchens, refectory, treasury, and the church's remarkable Baroque architecture.
During the tour, we will discuss the site's notable history, including that it was sacked by Napoleon's soldiers and served as a prison during World War I.
We will also visit the Archaeological Museum of Western Lucania, located within the monastery. This museum showcases ancient artefacts such as vases, ancient coins, and everyday utensils from the protohistoric to the Hellenistic period.
The guided visit lasts for 2 hours, concluding within the monument complex. Visitors have the option to continue exploring the monastery at their leisure after the tour.
