Tour Details
At your chosen time, we'll meet you at the entrance of the Padula Charterhouse to start our guided tour of this monastery, a World Heritage Site.
Also known as the Monastery of San Lorenzo, this 14th-century monument is the second-largest Carthusian complex in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. During our guided tour, you'll walk through the cloisters, enter the kitchens and refectory, and see the treasury and the church's Baroque architecture.
As we explore the Padula Charterhouse, we'll share facts about its history, including its sacking by Napoleon's soldiers and its function as a prison during World War I.
We'll then visit the Archaeological Museum of Western Lucania, located within the monastery. You'll see artifacts such as vases, ancient coins, and everyday utensils from the protohistoric to the Hellenistic period.
After a 2-hour visit, we'll conclude our tour inside the monument complex. You may continue exploring the monastery at your leisure afterwards.
