Beijing Hutongs Guided Tour
- 2 horas
On this tour of Beijing's hutongs, we'll explore the narrow alleyways that make up the Old Town of the Chinese capital. Step back in time for a traditional experience!
Beijing's Hutongs
The guided tour will begin at the historic Nanluoguxiang Hutong, an 800-meter-long (2,624-foot) alley dating back to the Yuan Dynasty. Here, the first hutongs and courtyard houses began to take shape.
As we walk along this alley, we'll enjoy the mix of old and modern Beijing, with its trendy bars, restaurants, unique hostels, themed stores, and street vendors. We'll also see typical gray houses with century-old trees, a testament to Beijing's traditional architecture.
Next, we'll head to Mao'er Hutong, formerly Zitong Temple, where Emperor Wenchang was worshipped. On this hutong, we'll pass Ke Yuan, one of Beijing's iconic gardens and the mansion of the last Empress Wanrong.
Passing over the Yinding Bridge, or Silver Ingot Bridge, we'll reach a narrow canal linking Qianhai Lake and Houhai Lake, in the Shichahai area, surrounded by quiet hutongs. From here, we can view the western mountain, one of the eight ancient wonders of Beijing.
Our last destination will be Qianhai Lake and Houhai Bar Street. This area was part of the ancient Grand Canal of the Yuan Dynasty over 600 years ago, now surrounded by ancient palaces, temples, and residences of past celebrities.
We'll conclude this 2-hour hutong tour at Houhai Lake.
