Admire the Lion of Amfipolis (duration 10 minutes)
Our first stop is the “Lion of Amfipolis”. The monument was originally located on the top of the Great Tomb at Amphipolis and at some time in the past was moved to its current location, several km. away from the Tomb site.
Discover the Archaeological site of Philippi (duration 1 hour)
Next you visit the Archaeological site of Philippi – UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient city was found by Alexander’s the Great father, where you shall visit the Basilica, the theatre, the Roman Forum, the cell where Apostle Paul was imprisoned but also the Octagon Church- the first Chirstian church of Europe (Following the Footsteps of Apostle Paul in Greece).
Visit the Baptistery of Saint Lydia (duration 20 minutes)
After the archaeological site, we continue to the Baptistery of Saint Lydia, located in a peaceful natural setting by the river Zygaktis. It is dedicated to the first woman in Europe to be baptized by Apostle Paul, symbolizing the beginning of Christianity in Europe. A spiritually significant stop that complements the visit to Philippi.
Visit Kavala City (duration 2 hours)
You visit Kavala city where for centuries Byzantines, Ottomans, Jews, merchants, tobacco workers, refugees and intellectuals mingled and prospered. Here in Macedonia, the sea-routes encountered the East-West axis, cross-fertilising both. See the tobacco warehouses and elegant neoclassical buildings recall the city’s glorious past and then enjoy the present with a meal and a drink in its lively centre under the eye of the city’s castle or around the port.
