3-Day Tour of Tantamayo

Ancient ruins, lost civilizations, imposing fortresses... Join us on this 3-day excursion to Tantamayo from Huanuco to experience all of these wonders and much more in central Peru!

3-Day Tour of Tantamayo

Day 1: Huanuco - Kotosh - Tantamayo

The tour will commence at 9 am when we pick you up at your hotel in Huanuco and head towards Tantamayo. During the six-hour drive, we'll visit the archaeological site of Kotosh, home to the temple of the Crossed Hands.

We will drive through the valley of the Marañon River before reaching the village of Tantamayo. After settling into the lodge, you will have free time to explore the town and visit the 16th-century church.

Day 2: Tantamayo

After breakfast, we will proceed to the archaeological center of Tantamayo. A 35-minute walk will take us to the Piruro sector, known for its yarowilca constructions up to 12 meters (40 feet) high.

Next, we’ll visit the Selmin Granero sector and return to the lodge for lunch. Afterwards, we will hike for 40 minutes at an altitude of 3400 to 3900 meters (11,150 - 12,800 feet) to the Susopillo sector.

At Susopillo, we will observe the fortress and learn about the lost civilizations prior to the Inca Empire. Afterward, we will return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3: Tantamayo - Corona del Inca - Huanuco

At 6 am, we will have breakfast and depart for Huanuco, passing through villages such as Chavin de Pariarca, Quivilla, Tingo Chico, and Ayapiteg. We will view the Corona del Inca during the journey.

Finally, we will arrive in Huanuco and drop you off at your hotel by 1 pm.

Lodging and meals

The tour includes two nights of accommodation in a double room with a shared bathroom in a rural hostel in Tantamayo.

Additionally, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners are included, featuring options such as trout, steak, milanesa, fried chicken, stew, or vegetarian dishes, accompanied by hot beverages.
