With this excursion to Churubamba & Papahuasi, you'll visit one of the most historical and culturally relevant valleys of the province of Huánuco and an old colonial hacienda.

Churubamba & Papahuasi Valley Excursion

We'll pick you up at 8 am from your hotel in Huánuco and travel along the left bank of the Huallaga River to the Papahuasi Valley, where the pre-Inca culture developed.

During the trip, we'll appreciate the landscapes of this valley. Our first stop will be in Churubamba, where we'll visit its district museum, which displays objects of the Papahuasi culture and other pre-Columbian civilizations, including the Papahuasi mummies.

Next, we visit the Church of Santa Cruz, a 17th-century temple associated with Father Alonso de Abad. We'll learn about his history and connection to this church.

We will also pass by the seven colonial chapels surrounding the Church of Santa Cruz in Churubamba, which represent the seven falls of Christ, significant in Huánuco's Holy Week. Among them are the Church of San Juan Bautista in Cascay, the Church of San Pedro in Utao, and the Church of San Nicolás in Tambogan, all dating from the 17th century. In San Pedro, we can see an exhibition of traditional clothing and Quechua handicrafts.

Next, we will visit a trout farm to learn about local trout farming. Finally, we will tour the colonial hacienda of Quenra to learn about the lifestyle of colonial landowners from the 1200s.

We'll return to Huánuco and drop you off at your hotel at 2 pm.
