Huallaga Valley Expedition

Our journey begins promptly at 8 am with a pick-up from your hotel in Huanuco. We will head towards the left bank of the Huallaga River and navigate into the enchanting Conchumayo River valley, a historical home to the Chupacho tribe prior to the Spanish conquest, which led to the establishment of colonial churches that still stand today.

The first stop on our itinerary will be the Holy Trinity Church, the very first temple constructed by the Spanish in this vicinity back in 1541. Situated in Pachabamba, this church is renowned for housing a magnificent 17th-century painting of "Christ Crucified", imported from Spain. Inside, we can observe a 17th-century baptismal font along with several colonial-era artifacts, including the intriguing "Holy Land Stone".

Next, our exploration continues to the San Sebastian Church in the village of Quera, built in the 17th century. Here, we will appreciate exquisite items, such as gold leaf-adorned furniture and a beautifully carved pulpit that portrays images of various Christian saints.

Our final stop will be at the natural monument known as Puyhuan, which translates to "heart" in Quechua. This site, steeped in age-old legends, also serves as a vibrant backdrop for Andean ceremonies, including the esteemed ritual of paying homage to the Earth.

As our tour concludes, we will return to Huanuco, dropping you off at your accommodation by 2 pm.
