The eruption of Mount Vesuvius led to the destruction of the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Join us on this day trip to explore the remnants of these once-thriving urban centers.
Description
At the designated hour, we will meet at your chosen location and set out towards the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, which was covered by the ash and lava released during Vesuvius’ eruption in 79 AD.
Upon arrival at this significant archaeological site, we will initiate a guided exploration of Pompeii. This tour, lasting approximately 2 hours, will take us through the preserved landmarks of the city, such as the renowned House of the Faun, the grand Amphitheatre, and the exquisite House of Menander.
What was daily life like for the people of Pompeii? Did they have any warning signs before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius? These questions and more will be addressed as we delve into the history of this ancient Roman city. Following the site visit, you'll enjoy 1 hour of free time to relax and have lunch in the surrounding area.
After lunch, we will proceed to Herculaneum. This ancient Roman coastal city, like Pompeii, was entombed by lava in 79 AD, and we will learn about its remarkably preserved structures, including the notable Casa dei Cervi (House of Deer) and the Sacello degli Augustali (Shrine of Augustales).
Following the guided tour of Herculaneum, we will visit a local cameo workshop to witness the craftsmanship behind these beautiful pieces. The excursion will conclude as we return to the original meeting points, approximately 8 hours after departure.
