Description
At your chosen time, we will meet next to the Dom Dinis Statue to explore the University of Coimbra. This prestigious institution is one of the oldest universities in Europe and has been declared a World Heritage Site.
We will enter the central courtyard where we will begin to learn about its history. Inside the complex, the tour includes the Chapel of São Miguel, known for its decorated tiles and baroque organ, as well as the Joanine Library, built by King John V of Portugal. This library is recognized for housing an extensive collection of books from the 16th to 18th centuries.
Upon concluding our exploration of the University, we will visit the Old and New Cathedrals, two important temples in the city. We will also see the escadas do Quebra Costas, designed in medieval times to connect the lower city with the castle, along with the Almedina Arch, part of the citadel walls. Be prepared to take photos throughout the tour!
After 2.5 hours of sightseeing, we will conclude our guided tour of Coimbra near the meeting point.
