Meet us in the central Piazza della Reppublica of Firenze to begin our guided walking tour of Florence focused on the historically significant Medici family. Our knowledgeable guide will set the scene and discuss how Florence, inhabited since prehistoric times, became a center for Etruscan culture.
Our first stop is Piazza della Signoria, adjacent to Palazzo Vecchio, showcasing Medici architectural legacy. We move to the Duomo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which includes The Baptistry and Giotto's Campanile. Here, we will view the gold-paneled "Gates of Paradise" and learn about its significance.
Next, we'll visit Orsanmichele, originally a grain market, now a church for Florence's trade guilds. We'll also explore Santa Trinita Church, where the Column of Justice was gifted to Cosimo de Medici by Pope Pius IV.
