Ticket Information
Chances are you've encountered images of a stunning rock rising from the sea, adorned with enchanting Gothic structures... This dreamlike location is Mont-Saint-Michel, a tidal isle positioned at the estuary of the Couesnon River along the Normandy shoreline. Not only is it one of the most frequented sites in France, but it has also been considered sacred for over a millennium... Are you interested in discovering its secrets?
Your admission ticket grants you the freedom to wander through the abbey at your leisure. Take in the striking blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles manifested throughout the building, which has evolved since the establishment of the pre-Romanesque church-abbey in the 10th century.
Beyond the historic church, rediscovered in the late 19th century, lies another significant structure known as the "Marveille", which served as the residence for the monks. Within this area, you will discover edifices constructed under the guidance of Robert de Torigni, a 12th-century abbot, along with the cloister and the refectory, where the monks would gather for meals.
Exploring the lower levels of Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey is highly recommended, as they harbor the crypts and the Saint Martin Chapel. While you navigate this legendary locale, keep an eye out for signs of its diverse history that spans several centuries beginning in the 15th century... it wasn't always a haven for monks!
Depending on your visit's timing, you might have the chance to participate in one of the regular masses offered for pilgrims within the church.
