Astorga: The Historical Roman City with the Cathedral and Episcopal Palace
- 8 ore
At the indicated time we leave León in the direction of Astorga, cradle of the Maragatería.
Once we reach the historic center of Astorga we will immerse ourselves in its imperial past. In the 1st century BC, the legionaries of the Legio X Gémina division needed a safe place to station themselves during the Cantabrian wars. Thus was born the Asturica Augusta camp, the origin of the city.
This route is the best way to get to know the town of Astorga in depth, it is a combination of the Astorga Romana and Astorga Religiosa excursions. In the morning we will visit the Cathedral of Astorga, at the entrance there will be an audio guide that will explain in detail each of the spaces of the cathedral.
Divide your time well during the visit to the Cathedral because at 12:30 you will have to go to Gaudí's Episcopal Palace, there a guide will be waiting for you to start the guided tour. After finishing the visit, you will have free time to have lunch on your own and walk through the streets of Astorga.
At 16:30 you will have to go to the Roman Museum La Ergástula. After exploring the entire museum, we will take the Roman Route of Astorga to admire the different archaeological remains found in the city. After finishing, return to León around 6.30pm.
