Covadonga, Cangas de Onís Lakes + Lastres Day Trip

If you love history and nature, don't miss this day trip to the lakes and basilica of Covadonga, Cangas de Onís, embarking on a scenic route along the Asturian coast leading us to Lastres.

Day Trip Details

We'll pick you up at the indicated time in the center of Oviedo, and travel to the east of Asturias to visit the Lakes of Covadonga, located in the Picos de Europa National Park. The first stop will be at the Entrelagos viewpoint for a panoramic view of Lake Ercina and Lake Enol. After learning about their glacial origin, we'll visit the Basilica of Santa María la Real de Covadonga, built between 1877 and 1901, and learn about King Pelayo and the Spanish Reconquest.

Next, we'll go to the Covadonga Sanctuary, where we will see the cave housing the Virgin, Santina, and the Royal Pantheon with the remains of Don Pelayo and other Asturian kings.

Afterward, we will head to Cangas de Onís for a short guided tour, followed by 2 hours of free time for lunch and photo opportunities next to the iconic Roman bridge and the Victoria Cross.

Then, we'll continue to Lastres for a guided tour before returning to the initial meeting point after 12 hours.

Itinerary Changes

Please note that the Covadonga Lakes are within the Picos de Europa National Park, with regulations on parking and access. The park may close access for organizational reasons or reduce the time spent at the lakes without prior notice, which may result in more time being allocated to other stops.

Access to the Lakes of Covadonga

Depending on the parking space assigned by the park, access to the Lakes of Covadonga will include a climb of either 200 or 400 stairs.
