Details of the Day Trip
Your adventure begins with a pickup at the designated meeting point in the heart of Oviedo. From there, we'll navigate towards the eastern region of Asturias to explore the well-known Lakes of Covadonga, a stunning collection nestled within the western massif of the Picos de Europa National Park.
Our first stop will be at the Entrelagos viewpoint, where we can take in magnificent views over Lake Ercina and Lake Enol. After understanding the glacial origins of these lakes, we will proceed to the Basilica of Santa María la Real de Covadonga. This neo-Romanesque structure, constructed from 1877 to 1901, holds the stories of King Pelayo and the Spanish Reconquest.
Next, we'll make our way to the Covadonga Sanctuary, where you will get to see the cave that shelters the image of the Virgin, affectionately called the Santina. The visit will also include the Royal Pantheon, the resting place of Don Pelayo and other esteemed Asturian monarchs.
Following our time at the Covadonga Sanctuary, we will travel to Cangas de Onís, where a brief guided tour will await. Afterward, you will have two hours of leisure time for lunch. This is also a great opportunity to capture photos near the iconic Roman bridge of Cangas, and beneath its arch lies the renowned Victoria Cross, a prominent symbol of Asturias.
We will then proceed to Lastres, where a guided exploration will reveal the town’s hidden gems. Our day will conclude with our return to the original meeting point after approximately 12 hours.
