Immerse yourself in Thailand's rich cultural, historical and architectural heritage on this day trip to the ancient capital city: Ayutthaya.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the National Stadium BTS Station. We'll then travel by air-conditioned vehicle to the Bang Pa-In Royal Palace, arriving at 10 am. This former Thai King's summer royal residence features a riverside palace complex with notable architecture.
Next, we will proceed to the ruins of Ayutthaya, which was founded in 1350 and became the second capital of the Siamese Kingdom. It was destroyed by the Burmese army in 1767, resulting in its abandonment. The ancient structures that remain provide insight into the past, including tree roots around scattered Buddha heads.
After our exploration, we will have lunch at a local restaurant. We will spend several hours visiting ancient religious sites, including Wat Mahathat, which features a large Buddha head nestled among tree roots, Wat Mongkol Borpit known for its enormous seated Buddha statue, and Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, the most important complex of the ancient Thai capital.
Lastly, we will visit Wat Chaiwatthanaram, known for its stone Thai Buddhist chedi monument, a key reason Ayutthaya received UNESCO status in 1991. After a fulfilling day, we will return to Bangkok.
