Rainbow Mountain Hike

Discover the spot where a rainbow fell out of the sky and melted into the Andean landscape on this guided hike of Vinicuna, the Mountain of Seven Colours.

Description

Prepare for an adventure as we pick you up from your hotel in Cusco for our trip to Rainbow Mountain. After approximately two hours of travel, we will arrive at Kusipata village for a hearty breakfast to prepare for the hike.

Following breakfast, we will continue for about two hours to a mountainside community, where the trek begins at 4600 meters (15,000 feet) above sea level. As we hike, we may encounter Andean wildlife including alpacas, sheep, and vicuñas.

After about one hour and 45 minutes of hiking, we will reach Rainbow Mountain. We will take ample time to capture photographs before descending back to the bus, which will be easier than the ascent.

Upon returning to Kusipata, you'll enjoy a buffet lunch. After lunch, we will head back to central Cusco and drop you off near Plaza de Armas, completing this 14 to 15-hour excursion.

Pickup occurs between 4 am and 4:40 am, depending on your accommodation's location. For other locations, a meeting point near Plaza de Armas will be provided.

Important

This route is relatively difficult. Recommended for those in good health; individuals with heart conditions should not participate.The tour reaches approximately 16,400 ft (5,200 meters) above sea level. The trail is mostly flat with small hills, lasting around one hour and 40 minutes. Acclimatization in Cusco for a few days before the hike is advisable.
