On this Brontë Sisters tour, we will explore the landscapes of the Lake District that inspired Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

Brontë Sisters Tour

We will meet at 9 am at Station Precinct and depart Windermere to enter Brontë Country, the region where the sisters grew up. Book lovers will find this particularly engaging.

First, we will tour the Lake District National Park, noted for its beauty and as a source of inspiration for the novels of Emily, Charlotte, and Anne Brontë. Our first stop will be the village of Cowan Bridge, where the Brontës attended the Clergy Daughter's School.

Next, we will follow in Charlotte Brontë's footsteps through Lancashire to the village of Wycoller, which inspired Ferndean Manor in Jane Eyre. We will enjoy the village atmosphere and explore its bridges and Gothic and Romanesque ruins.

Then, we will visit Ponden Hall, which served as inspiration for Thrushcross Grange in Wuthering Heights. Debate its resemblance to the farm in Anne Brontë's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.

We will proceed to Haworth, home to the parsonage where the Brontë family lived. Here, we will visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum, which contains the largest collection of personal belongings of the sisters.

Finally, we will visit the family cemetery where all but Anne are buried, the Black Bull Inn, and the church where their father served. We will conclude the tour by returning to Windermere at 5:30 pm.
